Many people ask and wonder how to study English
effectively. They seem too lazy to memorize all those strange and new
vocabularies, too bored to study grammar, too hard to try speaking, and too
difficult to listen to native speaking.
As to my experience; at first I thought English in
the same way as many people think. However, I found it that language is a
matter of custom; a custom we have to
live our daily life with it. So, learning English is not merely receiving what
we get from our teachers in class. It’s about using it in our real life. The
other question that may come next is “then how we practice English while we
live in the world where English is not our first language?”.
Oh, come on dude! Haven’t you heard that English is
an international language? You can find English everywhere around you; you
don’t need to be in London to find people speaking English.
Let me show you how to make yourself as if you were
in London or New York!
1. Beat
the music!
I bet you nobody loves no music!
There is so much music to choose and to listen. So, if you are some kind of
music lovers; do you like to listen to western songs? They are not all about
rock, metal and heavy music; if you love to listen to slow music, you may
choose accoustic songs covered by Sabrina; she makes any kind of music into her
accoustic style. If you love easy-listening songs; many popular songs are easy
to follow and to enjoy. You’ll probably choose One Direction, Justin Bieber,
Avril Lavigne or Taylor Swift.
Whatever songs you choose; what I’m
going to say is try not to only enjoy the songs while doing something else!
Practice your listening skills by trying to guess what the singers are singing.
If you think you want to give up after having hard time in guessing, you may
search the lyrics through internet. The more time and attention you give to the
song, the more you will learn many things from listening to it.
2. Feel
the movie in different ways!
Now after you mean it into learning
English, you may watch English movies in different ways; yups! It is about
listening and translating practices! Try to catch the words spoken by the
actors and the actresses and the way they are speaking their dialogues. If you
think you can’t catch what words they are saying; you may once in a while
switch the subtitles into the English version. That way you can practice your
listening skill and translating as well.
3. Surf
in the sea of internet!
Guys, don’t only waste your time only in
Facebook or Twitter; there are far more things you may grasp on internet!
Online English newspaper, online English lessons, online videos, English
written blogs and many others for you to read, listen and enjoy. So, surf in
the sea of internet deeper now! If you get lost in the words; there are some online
dictionaries to look up those words too.
So, guys... after you practice those points, be
ready to hear people say to you, “Have you been in London for years? Your English is
really awesome!”
Good luck on you!
